Guys,
Here is K8KFJ's recap of his participation in the WV QSO Party (WVQP.)
Looks like lots of folks were participating in this event. Hope everyone
had a great time. I'm still playing in the ARRL June VHF QSO Party and
having a blast with my 6-M Inverted-V !!!

Subject: WVQP recap
The low part of the cycle is really not much fun when it comes to HF.
Today was another fine example. At least, I got enough Qs in the WVQP today
to add another t-shirt to my collection but it was rough sledding boys and
girls. Heck, even the VHF Contest fell on it's face today.
Where were all the mobiles running counties this year in the WVQP??? I got
3 counties from Charles (N8RR) in his mobile and a couple from K8RYU but
that was about it. Everyone knows the mobiles can make or break a QSO Party
and this year we obviously didn't have 'em.
One of our normal out-of-state winners was on again this year (N4PN from the
Peach State). He moved me from phone immediately to CW (the ole 2 for 1
thingey). He's a real crackerjack with his thick southern accent. I'm
gonna make a prediction and say that N4PN will be our out-of-state winner
this year.
I predict our instate (single op) winner as K8JQ. This guy was everywhere.
I worked him on 40 and 80 CW and on 40m SSB. The dude put in some major
time. Art W8PBO is a super op and had a great run going when I worked him
but I think got on the air too late to catch K8JQ.
I worked our buddy on the creek (KG8GW) who turned in an outstanding QRP
entry one year. I'd be anxious to know if anyone has ever beaten his
winning total. I couldn't tell if he was QRP this year or not because he's
got excellent antennas and is always strong here at my location regardless
of his power level.
I attempted to "run" some stations but my signal isn't exactly an attention
getter (ifn ya know what I mean) so that idea was kinda dumb. All I did was
to cause the fan to come on the 706G. :-)
W8WVA stayed very busy and I was glad to work 'em on both phone and CW. I
can always tell if it's David Lynn at the keyboard. He calls CQ and then
quickly adjusts his sending speed to the callers speed. He's very
accommodating and I'm guessing the callers appreciate it. I was surprised
that Boobie W8GU was allowed to do some phone duty though. That was really
scraping the bottom of the barrel when you had to relinquish the microphone
to him. :-) Everyone knows he has some major emotional problems. ;-)
Did I just do a blog? Hmmmm. Anyway, that's how it all went down at the
KFJ shack today during the 2008 running of the WVQP.
