DX'ers,
The HF Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) in Alaska and the Long
Wavelength Array (LWA) in New Mexico are are performing a lunar echo
experiment this weekend on 40-M. Last night was the first test. If you
want to try and hear them, you can then claim 1/2 of an MoonBounce contact
on 40-M !!!
The YouTube video link shown below has the audio recorded by K7AGE last
night and at times you can not tell the ionospheric HAARP signal from the
signal bouncing back from the moon. The guy also displays the signal on a
spectrum analyzer so you can see the nice square wave from the Alaskan
transmitter followed by the raggedy signal off the moon. Amazing! I'll
have to give this a try tonight and see if the *Famous 160-M
Inverted-L*antenna will hear it.
The first time to listen tonight will be at 1:30 a.m. local time. So,
another short night here I guess, Hi!
Here are some reports on last night's activity:
For those of you in the US who didn't listen to the 40 meter (!) EME
> tests last night, it was quite interesting. Fair signals from the HAARP
> transmitter via the ionosphere followed by strong EME echoes. Receive
> here was a TS-940S & multi-band dipole.
>
> The test will be repeated tonight.
> On January 20, listen on 6.7925 MHz from 0630-0730 UTC, and on 7.4075
> MHz from 0730-0830 UTC (depending on frequency occupancy at the time of
> operation, it may be necessary to adjust the frequency slightly).
