[WVDXA] Postage Increases

There's only one direction that the postage rates will go... up of course. I saw where it now requires 3 greenstamps if you expect to cover return postage from DL-land. So Clark is right, LOTW is the way to go. I just passed the 4,000 QSL mark on LOTW with a 12.7% QSO to QSL ratio. That isn't too bad, I don't think.

I just sent out incoming bureau cards for the 8th Area "H" guys and there are less than 15 hams in the "H" world that are really what I would call active on the bands and getting any quantity of cards. I actually purged the files of 7# 12.7 oz of cards that have been on file toooo long with the bureau without return envelopes from the callsign holders. I know there were some SKs in the bunch and most of the guys had been contacted either through postcard, email or NTS radiogram. Hard to believe that they don't want their cards. It killed me to toss 'em in the trash but they are in the landfill now. I didn't even have the heart to look through some of them. So the moral of that story... Make sure you have SAS envelopes or postage credits with the bureau or your letter manager.
As far as outgoing cards, the League has raised the rate to $5 per each half-pound. That is getting pricey too. If anyone is interested, Global QSL is up and running at www.globalqsl.com They are only charging $82 per 1,000 to print, sort, and send out bureau cards and the quality is superior with full color front and back. Show me a better deal and I will buy it for you. If anyone has questions about the service, feel free to let me know. I am not on the payroll, by the way.
I will be mailing out the plaque for the NA winner of the 2006 Holyland Contest this week. The winner was VP2E. This plaque is sponsored by WVDXA in memory of W8AH. Thanks to those of you who sent me a donation on this to cover the cost of the plaque. I hope you all like the design. This year's contest is next month, by the way if anyone is interested.
WVDXA received a flier on the Athens, OH Hamfest coming up on Sunday, April 29. They sent a free entry ticket worth $5 to get in. I will be happy to mail it to the first one of you that is interested in attending.
Finally, I had a great time at the Charleston Hamfest and seeing everyone in attendance. Actually, I was pleasantly surprised by the large turnout at around 500 or so. Great to see and eyeball QSO with some of the WVDXA gang as well. Conspicuously absent were W8ZT and W8XF. I have sent out APB...
Hope everyone is enjoying the nice wx.... Got that hole dug yet Clarkster? Looks like your antenna party will serve as our next meeting!
73,
Hal W8HC

Guys,
Bernie in The Daily DX is also reporting the following about postage
increases. If you are not yet on LoTW, it is getting to be a better and
better deal from the cost perspective to exchange QSL's electronically.
>First Class US mail is expected to go up from 39 cents to 41 cents
>effective May 14th. There is also a proposal for a new "forever"
>stamp. Details can be found at
>http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070319/ap_on_go_ot/postal_rates .
>Air Mail is also expected to go up to 90 cents. See
>http://tinyurl.com/y8bgxx page 4 for proposed fee increases.
