Soon-to-be Fearless Leader and Gang,
I too can feel the excitement beginning to build! Yes, this will
certainly go down into the annals of DX-dom as a defining moment for
WVDXA. We will be celebrating not only the installation of Clark W8TN
as our new President but will be celebrating the successes of our
fellow members who have elevated their status in the realm of DX by
working the recent BS7H operation. We will recognize and honor those
amongst us who have reached the pinnacle of DXCC, joining Hal W8HC and
Dave WA8WV who have been so lonely at the "top." We will also
celebrate the other WVDXers who were able to work the oft-controversial
Scaffold.... er, Scarborough Reef, this rarest of the rare for DX
chasers.

It should be a memorable affair at the Museum this Saturday and I am
sure if you miss this one, you will be kicking yourself for a long,
long time. Who would not want to come? After all, Clark is bringing
cake! His first order of business is to "let them eat cake" How can
anyone pass up this opportunity? Fellowship, DX, good food,
comraderie, BS7H stories.... need I go on?

Yes, Me and Steph are coming. We can hardly wait! Here is what she
enthusiastically said about this Saturday, "I guess I'll go." She gets
it folks! I hope others get it too and will plan to join us.

I did speak with Dave Comstock W8HYX and Dave will be joining us. By
the way, Dave acquired an Icom- 718 at Dayton and Rick W8ZT helped him
put up a long wire antenna last weekend and now Dave is officially on
HF. He worked a station in European Russia and Italy and is slowly but
surely getting his feet wet on this DX-thing. I think by next year at
Dayton, Dave will be on his way to Honor Roll! So let's welcome him
Saturday as one of the up and coming amongst us.

So as Clark said, please let us know if you are planning to attend and
if you are bringing other(s) with you so we can do a better job on our
end planning.

Thanks es 73...
Hal W8HC

Subject: [WVDXA] WVDXA Meeting/Picnic Saturday

Guys,

In less than THREE days the WVDXA will convene one of it's
fantastic meetings.  This one will also be a picnic/bar-b-que.  More
fun than you can shake a Wouff Hong at!

I will definitely be attending this Saturday's event (can't miss
my own Presidential Installation) and I will be bringing a cake.  Are
you planning to come?

From the lack of response so far on the reflector, it does not
look like too many folks are planning to come.  I sincerely hope that
is NOT the case.

Here is the list I have so far of those I know (or think) are
planning to attend:

W8HC
WA8VPN
K4OM
WA8WV
W8ZT
W8OP - Homemade hot dog sauce & potato salad
W8OI & Nancy - Baked beans & dessert
W8WEJ - Ramps?  -  WOOF!
W8TN - Cake & soda pop
W8QHG
KC8UHE

Thus, if you have not officially "announced" your plans to attend,
please do so in order that the WVDXA chefs can order and prepare the
requisite amount of hamburgers/hot dogs/buns and the like.  Be sure to
include your spouse, girl friend, significant other, YL, XYL,
better-half, bride, concubine, consort, helpmate, little woman,
partner, roommate, squaw or other relationship and let us know how many
will be attending the soiree.

If you know of any DX'ers who are not on the WVDXA reflector and
who you think might enjoy the fabulous camaraderie of our group, please
convince them to come on Saturday.

The festivities are planned for NOON at the Museum of Radio and
Technology in Huntington.  If you are not familiar with the location of
the Museum, here is the main web page for the museum:

<http://oak.cats.ohiou.edu/~postr/MRT/>

Here is a set of directions and a map:

<http://oak.cats.ohiou.edu/~postr/MRT/map.htm>

The important part of the directions on that page are these:

Exit as shown to 14th Street West away from the Ohio River. You will go
under a railroad bridge on 14th Street West. Just after the bridge will
be a stop sign with a very stationary full-sized locomotive on your
right as a landmark. Turn right onto Memorial Boulevard and make an
immediate left onto Harvey Road which looks like a one-and-a-half lane
country road. Less than half a mile further, in front of a church, turn
left onto Florence Avenue. Half a block further, the Museum and its
fenced-in parking area will be visible on your right.

If you click anywhere on the map on the following link, it will
take you to Yahoo Maps where you can zoom in or out and see exactly how
to get to the Museum.  Note that the Museum is marked on this map by a
red star:

<http://oak.cats.ohiou.edu/~postr/MRT/map2.htm>

Basically, you just have to get to Huntington and then follow the
other directions.  After you turn left onto Florence Avenue, just look
for the antennas on your right and turn into the fenced parking lot.

Clark, W8TN
