Guys:
I just read and highly recommend a book about Marconi called
"Thunderstruck," by Erik Larson. It is all fact, every quote is real and all events
described are totally true, but it reads like a fascinating novel.
This book tells the story of the wireless in detail. But interwoven with
Marconi's experiments, his squabbles with scientists, his peccadillo's etc., is
another spellbinding story about a murder. The tie between the two stories
is the fact that the wireless was used to catch the murderer and his lover
who were making their getaway across the Atlantic on board a ship. This is a
work of history complete with considerable notes and bibliography, but it is
written so interestingly that it is just as much fun as fiction. I really
recommend it. It's pretty new, copyrighted in late 2006.
And did one of you recommend it to me? Someone did and I can't remember who.
