Pete,
not sure yet on 1 or 2. depends on what the gurus say... if the taller one will work better than the shorty, with a tuner....greg

Simple answer: quarter wave plus a bit. As many radials as it takes to make the antenna tune sharp.
I have heard that at least 12 are needed but more is better. As for the difference in length, I do not know.
Maybe a design thing to make impedance work out properly. Most of the ground losses come close to the antenna, so
run some additional radials (short ones) in addition to the long ones. I don't think you will need radials for each band.
160 radials should work for 80 (unless elevated, then different story). Are you gonna put 2 verticals up?

Subject: [WVDXA] Question of the day

My question is. I'm going to put up a vertical for 160/80 what length should my ground radials be. And should i have different lengths for each band?
Question two.
I have 2 verticals one is 65feet long(or close to it), and was told it was the 80 meter vertical. the other is a 53 foot (or close to it) and was told it was for 160. My question is. will the 65 foot work better on 160 with a tuner than the 53 foot.....what configuration would be my best way to go.

Come on you vertical guys help me out....Greg, W8GG
