  Subject: [WVDXA] Day TWO on W8TN's Tower Project

  Guys,

       Today we completed the removal of W8TN's tower at the old QTH. My great friends Pete, K4OM, and Tim, KC8UHE, came by again and helped take the remainder down. I'm not sure they knew exactly what they were in for though.

       Anyway, photos of today's activities are the last four photos posted on the following web site:

  <http://w8tn.com/Gallery/Tower>

       That IIX Ladder Mast is one heavy mudder! The top section is about 7' long, 2" O.D. and 1/4 inch wall - STEEL. The center section is about 6 feet long and 2-1/2" O.D. and 1/4" wall with steps welded to it. The bottom section is about 7 or 8 feet long and 1/2" wall and that is HEAVY. We left it in the top of the tower along with the rotor, two accessory shelves and the guy mount and brought that whole mess down as one piece. The first try to lift that part was NOT successful. Pete and Tim gave it all they had and it did not move! Luckily Pete had brought a "Tower Jack" and that was the key to getting the top section free. Thanks Pete!

       It took just under 2-1/2 hours to pull all the rest of the tower down. Then, Tim helped me load up 7 sections of Rohn 45 (it took two trips) in his pickup and we drove it up to the new QTH and carried it up to the tower site. Now it will be simple to build the new "stick" at the new QTH with the tower sections ready to go. When we got back to my present QTH, we found that UPS had delivered the Phillystran, pre-formed dead ends, and turnbuckles from Texas Towers so the pieces are now all in place.

       Thank goodness it is going to rain for the next couple of days. I need at least that much time to recuperate from all this tower work!

       Pete and Tim, you guys are the greatest!
