Garry and others,
Just a survey to determine how much you guys use the outgoing QSL bureau through ARRL.

Approximately how many cards would you say you send in a year's time? Either by number or weight.

How many times have you used the ARRL outgoing QSL bureau in the past 12 months?

Has LOTW had an impact on how many QSLs you send out through the bureau?

BTW, my QSL/QSO rate on LOTW is currently at 11.84%, a little above the average but certainly not all that great.

Tnx for your input on the survey es 73,
Hal W8HC

Thanks, Clark.

My procedure is to wait at least three weeks after a QSO before sending a card in the mail (exceptions for new countries) to see if I get a LOTW match. Guess I'll keep that plan going. I have been somewhat disappointed by LOTW, however. Don't get me wrong - I'm glad LOTW is around (even one out of 100 would be better than going the postage/green stamp route for all), but I felt that by now it would be getting a larger percentage of matches. To me it seems (totally unscientifically) that the rate of DX involvement is pretty low or pretty slow. Worse, involvement from outside the US doesn't seem to be improving in my universe.
Not griping. Just wondering how my experience fits in with others.

Garry,

     Yep, it's you.

You just ain't workin' folks that use LoTW. That's the name of that tune.

Here is a posting from the DX-list reflector about the current usage of LoTW:

I took a snapshot over the weekend of slightly over
200,000 new QSOs that came in. Here are my stats:

Date Total QSO's Total QSL Records
3/30 125,103,815 8,131,451

4/1 125,310,347 8,148,561

diff 206,532 17,110

So for this time period, the QSL rate for these
new QSO's is 8.28% Obviously, long-term these QSO's
will be matched at a much higher rate. Still, this
8 percent number seems low to me.

I'm thinking this isn't enough data to predict where
the LOTW overall QSL rate is headed. Obviously there
are a lot of factors like RTTY Contest weekends etc.
I thought this weekend was a good choice for a study,
since there is no major contest going on.

I did notice that Friday was a particularly bad day for QSL matches,
and that it got progressively better over the weekend.

However, the vast majority of those QSO's/QSL's are from U.S. stations. You are probably just working DX.

Is it just me or is something happening that's bigger than that? Of the 42 DX QSOs I've had since returning from Florida in mid-March, not one has yet been a match on LOTW. I upload/download to LOTW every day.

For a while I thought I was getting a match on about one out of ten or fifteen.
